Aug 10, · The plot of Born In Flames, a political science fiction mockumentary by director Lizzie Borden, is at once timely, retrospective and eerily prophetic. It follows three activist groups as they attempt to fight against a socialist government that has been in power for a decade. One group, the Women’s Army, is led by a Black lesbian named Adelaide Norris (played by Jean Satterfield.
Set in America ten years after the Second American Revolution, Born In Flames is a comic fantasy of female rebellion. When Adelaide Norris, the founder of the Woman's Army, is mysteriously killed, a seemingly impossible coalition of women- crossing all lines of race, class, and sexual preference- emerges to blow the System apart/5(13).

Feb 15, · Born in Flames, like some of Spike Lee’s best work, thrums with an emblazoned interest in addressing ongoing human rights concerns through zeitgeist-infused pop, though Borden’s approach omits explicit references to actual events, placing in its stead more philosophical rhetoric that hangs over the film like a darkened cloud that has the 3/4.
What BORN IN FLAMES does so well is just goes ahead and makes "where we are now" the dystopia with only minimal embellishments to re-contextualize the footage of police violence, sexual harassment, and social unrest. Formally this isn't that different than say Peter Watkins' PUNISHMENT PARK or a Ken Loach movie (LAND AND FREEDOM, especially /5(K).
Summaries. Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, it presents a dystopia in which the issues of many groups - minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists - are dealt with by the government.

Sep 01, · Born in Flames was an easy, fun read, spellbinding and full of action. Aurora, the main character, is a great, independent and on her own two feet character. I liked how she took control of things and started doing, rather than have things happen on their own/5.
